Well, what a small world. I’ve been following your blog since at least least 2014 when I started riding again. I have been living vicariously through your rides because I attended SUNY New Paltz (unfortunately I didn’t do much riding back then…) and would love to have the opportunity to go back in time and ride more. But what’s really funny is that I now realize that I know your fiancée! She lived with some good friends of mine and we shared a workplace. Congratulations to both of you!

John, it was great to get to know you better over Thanksgiving. The New Paltz house is awesome, as is your recounting of the many bikes you’ve had over the years. I see what you mean about the unusual fork design of the Bates. I will have to send you a pic of my Whitcomb, also steel but about 14 years newer than the Bates (and not nearly as good looking!)
