John, it was great to get to know you better over Thanksgiving. The New Paltz house is awesome, as is your recounting of the many bikes you’ve had over the years. I see what you mean about the unusual fork design of the Bates. I will have to send you a pic of my Whitcomb, also steel but about 14 years newer than the Bates (and not nearly as good looking!) Happy holidays, best, Tom T.
yup, congrats
Well, what a small world. I’ve been following your blog since at least least 2014 when I started riding again. I have been living vicariously through your rides because I attended SUNY New Paltz (unfortunately I didn’t do much riding back then…) and would love to have the opportunity to go back in time and ride more. But what’s really funny is that I now realize that I know your fiancée! She lived with some good friends of mine and we shared a workplace. Congratulations to both of you!
Congratulations, John! Happy riding!
John, we are more than happy. We’re ecstatic for you and Nina! Such great news.

Thanks Tom! It was a pleasure meeting you as well. Looking forward to many future Thanksgivings with the fam 🙂
